Shell customers in Malaysia can now make fuel payments through a mobile app called Shell Asia. Readily available for Android and iOS devices, the Shell Asia app also features BonusLink integration.
As you may know, this is not the first fuel payment app on the market. In fact, Shell is quite late to the game as Petronas has explored the space since 2018 via Setel before Chevron Malaysia came out with its own take through CaltexGo in 2021.
Essentially, having a Bonuslink card is a prerequisite for the Shell Asia app since it uses BonusLink Points as loyalty points. You can choose to link an existing BonusLink card with the app but if you don’t have one, the app will create a digital version on the spot.
The app also has a built-in Gift Catalogue which contained e-vouchers that users can redeem in exchange for their BonusLink Points. They can use the e-vouchers at Shell stations that support the new Shell App.
Meanwhile, the fuel payment feature of the app which is called Shell Pay can only be linked with a credit or debit card. The company has roped in eGHL as the payment gateway for the feature in Malaysia, based on our brief experience with the app.
Shell Malaysia’s website said that the app is currently on trial at selected Shell stations. The website didn’t provide any specific list, so you have to tap on the specific station inside the app’s map to see if the station support Shell App.
Thankfully, the map does have a filter function. This way you can easily spot Shell stations that support Shell Asia app and as you can see from the map above, it looks like the app can be used at plenty of locations throughout the country.
You can download the Shell Asia for your Android device from Google Play while iOS owners can head on to the App Store to obtain the app.
