MYAirline to expedite refunds, set up new hotline for affected customers

Troubled low-cost carrier MYAirline has issued an update on its current suspension and has vowed to process refunds for its affected passengers. A statement issued today said they are handling a high volume of requests and will establish a hotline to assist customers.

MYAirline Interim Accountable Executive Dato Sri Azharuddin said, “On behalf of MYAirline, we would like to express our deep regret about the recent event and how it had impacted all our passengers.”

He added that they are currently expediting the refund process and would like to kindly request patience as they are handling a high volume of over 12,000 emails. The airline said they are also in the process of establishing a hotline to better assist affected passengers.

To facilitate the refund process, affected passengers are urged to provide their booking number (PNR) when they email their refund request to customercare@myairline.my.

When it comes to the current MYAirline staff, Dato Sri Azharuddin assured that all personnel are still under full employment and they have not placed anyone on unpaid leave.

On the potential resumption of service, MYAirline said they have received multiple interests and are diligently evaluating the proposals. They assured that they will continue to provide updates to their valued passengers and related stakeholders.

Barely a year into service, MYAirline abruptly suspended its operations on Thursday, 12th October 2023 shortly after their CEO Rayner Teo stepped down. The sudden suspension had left passengers stranded and the airline currently operates several routes including Bangkok, Thailand which is their sole international destination.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke had expressed disappointment with the suspension without notice. He said MYAirline is liable to issue a public apology to the affected 125,000 passengers and to issue refunds which are estimated to be around RM20 million which cover flights all the way until March 2024.

Other Malaysian-based airlines have stepped in to provide assistance to affected MYAirline passengers by relocating passengers to the next possible flight as well as offering discounts and fixed fares.
