Samsung to bring Galaxy AI to 400 million device by end of 2025, pushes toward Ambient AI future

Samsung is scaling up its Galaxy AI ambitions, with a goal of reaching over 400 million devices by the end of 2025. As shared during the 2025 Galaxy AI Forum, held right after the Galaxy Unpacked launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, the company laid out its vision of mobile AI that blends seamlessly into everyday life.

Some of the latest AI additions include Google Gemini Live being available directly on the cover screen of the Galaxy Z Flip 7, while the Galaxy Watch 8 is the world’s first smartwatch to come with Google Gemini out of the box. These are made possible with improved on-device performance, contextual awareness, and deep ecosystem partnerships.

70% of Galaxy S25 users use Galaxy AI, Gemini usage triples on Galaxy S series

According to Samsung, over 70% of Galaxy S25 users have actively used Galaxy AI features. Among them, Circle to Search is used by 54% of users while Photo Assist usage has almost doubled from 13.4% on the Galaxy S24 to 26% on the Galaxy S25. Meanwhile, Now Brief is now used by one in three Galaxy S25 users.

Usage of Google Gemini has shown the sharpest rise, tripling year-on-year. Vice President of Android Consumer Product & Experience at Google, Mindy Brooks said, “Through close collaboration with Samsung, Gemini works seamlessly across their devices and connects with their first-party apps to provide helpful and personalised responses. For example, Gemini’s live video capabilities have been optimized for the Flip’s front screen camera, and Gemini on Galaxy Watch leverages context from your phone.”

She added, “When it comes to building more agentic AI, our priority is to ensure we’re fostering smarter, more personalized, and more meaningful assistance across our device ecosystem.”

A consumer research conducted with London-based Symmetry, showed that 47% of users now rely heavily on AI for everyday tasks such as voice assistance, AI search and personalised notifications. According to the research, 45% users globally are using voice commands more often than typing to get things done.

Samsung, Google and Qualcomm to delivery next era of Ambient AI to consumers

Samsung MX Business Corporate Executive Vice President & Head of Language AI Team, Jisun Park said “Some see AI as the start of a ‘post smartphone’ era, but we see it differently. The smartphone is becoming even more central to an ambient AI experience. Where AI is so seamlessly integrated into our daily lives that it becomes almost invisible and second nature.”

He added, “We’re building a future where your devices don’t just respond, they become smarter to anticipate, see, and work quietly in the background to make life feel a little more effortless. That’s the level of simplicity and efficiency we want to provide our users, and it starts with the device that’s always in your hand: your phone.”

Samsung’s objective isn’t just to make Galaxy AI more powerful but also widely accessible to the masses. After initially targeting 200 million devices in 2024 following the launch of the Galaxy S24 series, the Korean smartphone maker is committed to expand Galaxy AI to reach over 400 million devices by the end of this year.

Meanwhile, Qualcomm emphasised that greater personalisation calls for greater responsibility for privacy which can be addressed with on-device intelligence. Qualcomm’s Vice President of Product Management Dr Vinesh Sukumar said, “As AI becomes more personalised, there’s more information than ever to protect. We believe that trust is the foundation of personalized AI and for us, that trust is earned at the hardware level. Our work with Samsung prioritises secure, on-device intelligence so that users always know where their data is and who controls it.

He added, “For us, privacy, performance, and personalization go hand in hand – they’re not competing priorities, but co-equal standards. Our goal is to help people embrace AI with confidence, not concern.

Galaxy AI uptake in Southeast Asia driven by both existing and new users

When asked about the state of Galaxy AI adoption in Southeast Asia, Head of MX for Samsung Electronics Southeast Asia & Oceania Carl Nordenberg said, “Today, a majority of SEAO users of Galaxy AI-powered devices are using our variety of Galaxy AI features, available not only on our latest flagship models, but also on previous flagship models and tablets.”

He added, “Galaxy AI continues to enhance everyday experience across Galaxy users as a foundational layer of the product experience – operating intuitively in the background to enhance the user experience to feel natural for all.”

With Galaxy AI getting more personalised and deeply integrated with various Smart Home appliances via SmartThings, security and privacy remains among the top concerns. While Samsung Galaxy devices boasts up to 7 years of security updates, we asked Nordenberg, “what about home appliances?”

He told us, “At Samsung, we believe strong security and privacy are essential for delivering safe, reliable AI experiences. Our commitment to deliver safe and reliable mobile experiences within the home and outside of it, is achieved by blending robust on-device processing with cloud-based intelligence while prioritising user privacy and data security.”

Samsung’s research also highlighted the importance of trust and transparency. 62% of respondents globally say they would embrace mobile AI more readily if it were more transparent. That sentiment was even stronger in markets like India (80%), UAE (72%) and Mexico (71%). There are no specific figures for Malaysia but 69% of respondents in South Korea say they are ready to embrace AI with more transparency, while in Japan, the figure is 37%.
