If you’re a current or upcoming Tesla EV owner, take note that Full Self-Driving (FSD) one-time purchase option will be discontinued on 1st July 2026.
Tesla Malaysia has issued a notice that one-time purchase will only be available until 30th June 2026. After this date, FSD will only be offered as a monthly subscription option.
The latest change not only affects Tesla users in Malaysia but also in Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and Taiwan.
Tesla’s current Autopilot and FSD options in Malaysia
To recap, all Tesla EVs currently comes with Basic Autopilot as standard which offers Autosteer and traffic-aware cruise control. This is essentially adaptive cruise control with lane centering assist.
If you want more autonomous driving features, the next option is Enhanced Autopilot which currently costs a one-time RM16,000. This add-on includes Basic Autopilot as well as Auto Lane Change, Navigate on Autopilot, Autopark and Dumb Summon. Actually Smart Summon (ASS) is included but it is not yet available in Malaysia subject to local regulatory approval.
Meanwhile, the Full Self-Driving (FSD) option currently costs a one-time RM32,000. Besides Basic Autopilot and Enhanced Autopilot features, FSD provides users access to its self-driving feature once it is available in Malaysia. While you can purchase FSD, the feature is still pending local regulatory approval and there’s no clear timeline of when it will be enabled on Malaysian roads.
If you’re a Tesla owner, you have less than two weeks to decide whether to take up FSD for RM32,000 as a one-time upgrade or leave it as a subscription only option once it is available.
The one-time purchase for FSD was already removed after 14th February 2026 in most markets including the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand. For users who want to use FSD in these regions, they currently have to pay a monthly subscription fee as follows:
- USA – USD 99 (about RM410)
- UK – GBP 99 (about RM542)
- Australia – AUD 149 (about RM432)
- New Zealand – NZD 159 (about RM377)
So far, Tesla has yet to reveal its monthly FSD subscription fee in Malaysia. Looking at the other markets, we are guessing that FSD may cost around RM400 per month which is equivalent to RM4,800 per year. Over a 7-year period, that’s about RM33,600.
Tesla has yet to deliver true FSD
Elon Musk has been promising FSD with Level 4 and 5 autonomy since 2016 but it has been delayed countless of times. However, they have made progress by introducing supervised FSD in 13 countries. This includes United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, China, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark and Belgium.
Like the name suggests, this form of supervised FSD is considered Level 2 as it still requires drivers to remain fully attentive with eyes on the road while your hands are ready to take over the wheel when required.

It is worth noting that there’s no guarantee that the FSD subscription rate will be fixed throughout the ownership of your vehicle. Elon Musk has said before that the monthly subscription will rise when FSD goes to wide release.
