It looks like Proton isn’t taking its foot off the pedal anytime soon. Despite setting new sales records left and right this year, the national automaker has confirmed that it will be introducing at least two more new models before we wave goodbye to 2026.
The confirmation came directly from Proton’s Deputy CEO, Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa, during the announcement of the brand’s September sales performance.
“Despite our current success, Proton’s pace of model introductions, infrastructure investments and customer driven initiatives will not be slowing down.
We still have at least two more launches to come before the end of the year, while our export business is targeting further growth in sales of both Proton and Geely badged vehicles originated from Malaysia, in overseas markets.” – Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa, Deputy CEO, Proton.
While Proton is keeping its lips sealed on the exact identity of these upcoming cars, we can already make a few educated guesses on what’s heading our way.
The Saga Cross is almost certainly one of them

Unless Proton is pulling off a massive surprise, one of the two slots is practically guaranteed to be the rumoured Proton Saga Cross, codenamed AMA02.
Set to become the next model under the Proton Advanced Modular Architecture (AMA) after Proton Saga MC3, the development of AMA02 was revealed to the public during a presentation at Proton Tech Showcase last December. There have been rumours within the industry that the AMA02 might be made available with a choice of ICE and hybrid powertrains.

We’ve seen this compact SUV being tested on local roads for months now, and one of Proton’s major suppliers has previously claimed that the model is set to go into production this October. The same company also claimed that the AMA02 is going to be an A-segment compact crossover that will compete in the same space as Perodua Ativa and Honda WR-V.
Will the other model be an e.MAS EV or PHEV sedan?

Proton’s New Energy Vehicle (NEV) arm, Pro-Net, has been on a massive roll with the e.MAS brand. The brand already covered the SUV market through e.MAS 7 and e.MAS 7 PHEV as well as the budget market with e.MAS 5.
Not surprisingly, some have speculated that Proton may want to introduce an electrified sedan to diversify its NEV lineup further. If Proton goes down this path, we believe that the prime candidate would be a rebadged version of the Geely Galaxy A7 EV, which we saw earlier this year during the Beijing Auto Show 2026.

Over in China, the Galaxy A7 can also be obtained as a PHEV. Bringing an electrified sedan under the Proton e.MAS banner would give the national automaker an early foothold in the largely untapped market of budget and mid-range electric sedans.
Proton is having a massive 2026

It’s easy to see why Proton is pressing the accelerator on new launches—2026 has been a monster sales year for the automaker after surpassing its full-year 2025 sales volume (157,976 units) in just 9 months.
Proton said that it has achieved a Year-To-Date (YTD) cumulative sales of 160,886 units after delivering 19,465 units in September. The company pointed out that this is the earliest it has crossed the 150,000-unit mark in a single calendar year since 2002.

Here are the highlights from Proton’s 2026 performance so far:
- Proton Saga: Reclaimed the title of Malaysia’s best-selling car in September with 8,701 units delivered. YTD sales now stand at 68,237 units.
- Proton S70: Hit 20,709 units YTD and the addition of the new naturally aspirated 1.5 i-GT variant is expected to push numbers higher.
- Proton e.MAS: Already crossed 40,000 units in just 20 months. Driven by the e.MAS 5 with over 20,000 units delivered, electrified models now account for 19.3% of overall Proton sales.
- Proton X50 and X90: The X50 remains the top B-segment SUV with 20,163 units YTD, while the updated X90 leads the 7-seater D-segment SUV class with 3,250 units YTD.
- Exports: Delivered 1,311 units overseas in September, bringing YTD export numbers to 7,370 units.
With strong momentum across its ICE and NEV divisions, all eyes are now on Tanjung Malim to see what Proton rolls out before the end of the year.
