BMW iX M60 Malaysia: M-badged iX with 610hp, 1,100Nm, 0-100km/h 3.8 secs, RM631k

BMW Group Malaysia has launched the top-of-the-line variant of the iX, the M60—the first to be tuned by the hallowed BMW M division. With this, the local iX lineup that stretches right down to the RM403,800 xDrive40 is complete, but the M60 is a whole different kettle of fish compared to the base model.

BMW iX M60 Malaysia price and availability

The “M” in the M60 proffers extra performance, and that naturally means a higher price. At RM630,800 on-the-road without insurance, it’s RM84,000 more expensive than the already prodigiously powerful (and pricey) xDrive50 Sport. This figure includes RM8,223 in road tax, which is currently exempted until 2026, meaning that the actual amount payable should be RM622,577.

Also included is an optional RM18,370 five-year warranty and service package (a two-year, unlimited-mileage warranty comes standard), an eight-year/160,000km battery warranty, roadside assistance, a BMW Privileges Card and BMW Service Online.

BMW iX M60 power and performance

All iXs feature dual-motor all-wheel drive, but in the M60, they produce a total of 397kW (532hp). That may not seem like much next to the xDrive50’s 516hp, but torque has been bumped up considerably from 765Nm to a stonking 1,015Nm. The M-badged model is also unique in that it comes with a boost function, turning up the motors to 11 for up to ten seconds.

In this mode, the M60 churns out 455kW (610hp) and 1,100Nm of torque, getting it from zero to 100km/h in just 3.8 seconds—eight tenths of a second quicker than the xDrive50. Its (still electronically-limited) top speed is also 50km/h higher at 250km/h.

Keeping the M60 on the road is the M-tuned adaptive air suspension and standard-fit rear-wheel steering, while M Sport brakes with blue callipers help slow this near-2.5 tonne SUV down. Those stoppers hide behind 22-inch Style 1023 alloy wheels—the same design as on the xDrive40 Sport and xDrive50 Sport, albeit in a unique two-tone black and Titanium Bronze finish.

BMW iX M60 battery, range and charging

Under the skin, the M60 uses the same 111.5kWh battery as the xDrive50, though given the extra performance on tap, it’s no surprise that it has less range, falling from 630km to a still-respectable 561km on the WLTP cycle. It too supports up to 195kW of DC fast charging, taking 35 minutes to get from 10 to 80% charge. However, the M60 also benefits from double the maximum AC charging power at 22kW, providing a full charge in around five and a half hours.

Looks almost identical to the regular iX

Unfortunately, the extra outlay doesn’t buy you a significantly sportier look. The M60 looks almost identical to the regular iX with the Sport package, with the same bumper and grille design and Titanium Bronze window trim and door handles. In fact, aside from the aforementioned different wheel finish, the only real way you can differentiate this M Performance model are the black-and-gold iX M60 badges.

It’s the same story on the inside, where you’ll find the same minimalist cabin, hexagonal steering wheel, Gold Bronze highlights and natural leather seats with integrated headrests. You also still get a crystal glass gear selector, iDrive knob and volume roller set on an open-pore wood panel on the centre console.

You can at least expect a high level of standard kit, with features such as Laserlight headlamps, a curved widescreen panel housing a 12.3-inch instrument display and a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Qi wireless charger, ventilated power-adjustable front seats with driver’s side memory, four-zone automatic climate control, a Sky Lounge illuminated panoramic glass roof and a hands-free powered tailgate.

One feature not found in any of the regular iX models is the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Sound System, which features a staggering 30 speakers and an output of 1,615 watts.

In terms of safety, the M60 comes with the Driving Assistant Professional pack. This provides BMW’s highest levels of driver assistance and includes autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop and go and lane centring assist for Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capabilities. You also get the Lane Change Assistant for autonomous lane changes, blind spot monitoring and front and rear cross traffic alert.

Also fitted is the Parking Assistant Professional pack, which not only throws on park assist but also a reversing assistant and a 360-degree camera system with 3D view and a remote view function via a smartphone app. You can also use this app to activate the remote parking feature, letting you reverse the car into a tight spot without you having to be in the vehicle.
