CelcomDigi looking for new Yoodo owner who can take the brand to the next level

As part of the undertaking of the Celcom-Digi merger, CelcomDigi is required by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to divest its interest in Yoodo. This means the digital telco brand which was started by Celcom in 2018 must find a new independent owner within 18 months after the completion of the CelcomDigi merger.

During a media event held yesterday to launch Karnival Jom 5G, CelcomDigi CEO Datuk Idham Nawawi revealed that the divestment process for Yoodo is currently ongoing. He said they have received a lot of interest from various parties both local and international.

In the meantime, he said it is still business as usual for Yoodo and they are still operating in the market as is. He said Yoodo is a very strong brand when it comes to eSports and they are quite immersed in it.

Datuk Idham added that they hope the next owner of Yoodo is someone who can take the brand to the next level and has the resources to grow the brand. As the company and the mobile network operator who started Yoodo, CelcomDigi says they will continue to provide whatever support to ensure Yoodo will be successful.

Yoodo is a popular Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) brand which is the first to offer a fully customisable plan from an app. Besides providing full flexibility for users to design their own plan, Yoodo is popular for its value for money RM20 for 20GB data promo. Yoodo is also the first MVNO in Malaysia to offer 5G services which are now charged at RM5/month for 5G access. Recently, they have also started offering discounts of up to 10% if users subscribe with a longer validity of up to 180 days.
