You can now buy Audi RS e-tron GT and get a free VW Golf GTI in Malaysia

Among the concerns that some consumers have regarding electric vehicles is their range. Well, what if we tell you that you can now get a free ICE car when you buy an EV?

That is exactly what Audi Centre Setia Alam is offering for customers who purchase the Audi RS e-tron GT according to its Facebook page.

Audi RS e-tron GT Review

Audi Centre Setia Alam is currently offering a free, brand-new Volkswagen Golf Mk8 GTI with IQ.Drive for free to the Audi RS e-tron GT customers. If the offer sounds too good to be true, we have reached out to Yeow Choon Yee, one of the Sales Consultants listed on the Facebook post who have confirmed that this deal is real.

However, you have to get the RS e-tron GT at its listed on-the-road (OTR) price which starts at RM804,790 not inclusive of insurance. In other words, no discounts for the RS e-tron GT but you get a free Golf GTI instead which has a starting OTR price of RM241,012.

There is a catch though…

Audi Malaysia - September 2024
Audi Malaysia’s website, as captured at 12:15 AM today.

If you visit Audi Malaysia’s website right now, the home page is currently highlighting the company’s Merdeka promo in which you can get the RS e-tron GT for as low as RM599,990. As noted earlier, you have to purchase the EV at its listed price tag of RM805k if you want to get the “free” Golf GTI.

So, is the offer by Audi Centre Setia Alam a dud then? Well, not really.

Consider this: if you add the RS e-tron GT’s offer price on Audi Malaysia’s website with the Golf GTI’s list price, the total amount would be RM841,002. So, you still generally save around RM36.2k.

Audi RS e-tron GT quick specs

Launched in June last year, the RS e-tron GT is essentially the most premium EV that Audi has for Malaysia at the moment. The electric 4-door sports coupe was built using the J1 Platform which was also used for Porsche Taycan and yes, this is the EV that Tony Stark drove in Avengers: Endgame.

This particular model is equipped with a pair of electric motors that provide a total output of 440kW (590hp). This figure can be pushed even further at up to 475kW (639hp) by activating its boost mode that gives owners access to 830Nm of torque and 0-100km/h timing of just 3.3 seconds.

Equipped with a  93kWh battery, the RS e-tron GT can deliver a WLTP-rated range of 496km which sounds a little bit off given its considerably large battery capacity. Then again, this EV focuses more on performance rather than range.

When it comes to charging, this EV comes standard with a 22kW AC onboard charger. Just like the Taycan, the RS e-tron GT also has 800V architecture which allows it to support DC charging speed of up to 270kW and you only need around 23 minutes of charging time to get its battery level to go from 5% to 80%.

According to our former colleague Johnathan who reviewed the EV earlier this year, the RS e-tron GT is not an EV you buy with your head but with your heart instead. It has quite a mix of pros and cons but nevertheless, it is an EV with a character which is something you don’t find often in the EV world.
