Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 officially revealed: Thinner, lighter, bigger screens and 200MP main camera

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series has entered its seventh generation and for once, it’s not just a minor iteration slapped with more Galaxy AI features.

With the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung has introduced a substantial redesign that delivers its thinnest and lightest foldable yet, all while upgrading the display, hinge, and camera systems. But there’s also a key feature that’s missing this time around.

Thinner than ever, lighter than Galaxy S25 Ultra

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 now folds down to just 8.9mm, making it the thinnest Galaxy Fold to date and just a hair thinner than the Oppo Find N5 (8.93mm). However, the crown for world’s thinnest bi-fold still goes to the recently launched Honor Magic V5 at 8.8mm.

When unfolded, the Fold 7 measures only 4.2mm thick, making it thinner than a Galaxy Tab.

Besides shaving off mm from the side profile, Samsung has also trimmed down the weight. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is now 215g, making it 10% lighter than the Fold 6. That’s also lighter than the Galaxy S25 Ultra which weighs 218g and it even undercuts the Honor Magic V5 which weighs 217g.

Larger screens inside and out

Samsung has also made the screens bigger on its latest bi-fold smartphone. The cover display now measures 6.5 inches (120Hz Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X) with 2520×1080 pixels resolution. It is slightly wider for better usability, though it still has a tall and narrow 21:9 aspect ratio. If you’re hoping for a more “candy-bar” feel like the Honor or Oppo foldables, this isn’t quite it.

Inside, the Fold 7 features an 8.0-inch (120Hz QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display) with 2184×1968 pixels resolution, which Samsung says is 11% larger than before.

In the hands, it doesn’t feel much bigger than the previous Galaxy Z Fold 6. It is only when you compare them side by side, then the difference is noticeable.

New hinge and durability upgrades

With such a slim profile, structural integrity is crucial. Samsung says the Z Fold 7 introduces a reworked Armor Flex Hinge, featuring a waterdrop-style fold and a new multi-rail structure designed to distribute pressure more evenly across the screen.

The device uses Grade 4 Titanium lattice, a 50% thicker Ultra-Thin Glass layer and new adhesive materials to improve rigidity. The cover display is protected by Corning Gorilla Ceramic 2, while the back panel is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Similar as last year’s model, the Z Fold 7 still comes with IP48-rated dust and water resistance.

No more S Pen support

One major downgrade: The Galaxy Z Fold 7 no longer supports the S Pen.

Unlike the Galaxy S25 Ultra that comes with an S Pen built in, the S Pen is offered as an add-on accessory for the Z Fold series. Not only the S Pen is sold separately, users would need to get a special case to stow the stylus away.

Samsung says the decision to take out the S Pen support was based on usage studies, which saw low adoption of the stylus among Fold users. So if you relied on the S Pen for note-taking or sketching, you’ll have to switch to a Galaxy S Ultra or a Galaxy Tab.

Snapdragon 8 Elite with same old battery capacity

Powering the Fold 7 is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, promising better NPU, CPU and GPU performance. With the efficiency of the 3nm SoC, Samsung says it now supports up to 24 hours of video playback on a single charge.

But once again, Samsung sticks with a 4,400mAh battery, unchanged since the Galaxy Z Fold 3. That’s a full generation behind competitors who are already hitting 5,000mAh and even 6,000mAh batteries in foldables.

Charging remains the same too. It still does 25W “fast” wired charging and 15W “fast” wireless charging, which feels dated in 2025.

First 200MP camera on a Fold

For the first time, the Z Fold 7 inherits Samsung’s 200MP camera tech from the S series that’s capable of offering 2x optical-quality zoom from the main sensor.

You’ll still get a 10MP telephoto shooter with 3x optical zoom and a 12MP ultra-wide camera that is now 56% brighter than on the Fold 6.

Selfie-wise, there’s a 10MP punch-hole camera on the cover display and a 10MP main screen camera, which replaces the old 4MP under-display solution. The punch-hole on the screen is definitely noticeable but the new 10MP camera does make a whole lot of difference as it captures greater detail and offers a wider 100-degree angle.

Galaxy AI gets more powerful

Running on One UI 8 based on Android 16, the Z Fold 7 benefits from an upgraded Galaxy AI suite, including features like Circle to Search, which now works during gameplay; Photo Assist, which offers improved editing suggestions; Enhanced Generative Edit, enabling one-tap object erasure; and deeper Gemini integration for smarter, foldable-optimised interactions on the larger screen.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 colours and Malaysia Pricing

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 comes in Jetblack, Silver Shadow, and Blue Shadow. There’s also an online exclusive Mint colour.

Pre-orders are now available in Malaysia and here’s the official pricing:

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 (12GB+256GB) – RM7,799
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 (12GB+512GB) – RM8,399
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 (16GB+1TB) – RM9,899

Take note that the 1TB storage variant is only available in Blue Shadow and Jetblack.

Compared to last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 launch pricing, the new Z Fold 7 costs about RM500-800 more, depending on the variant you choose.

Conclusion

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is Samsung’s most refined foldable to date—dramatically thinner and lighter with bigger displays and upgraded durability. But it also takes a few steps back, most notably with the removal of S Pen support, a less immersive display due to the 10MP punch-hole camera and a battery that’s now well behind the competition.

However, Samsung is also aiming to stand out for its long-term support and after-sales service. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is backed by class-leading software and security updates for up to seven years, which is among the longest in the industry.

For added peace of mind, Samsung is also offering an optional Galaxy Care+ package that includes three years of unlimited repairs for accidental damage, complete with doorstep pick-up and delivery. Users can call the 24/7 Samsung Care+ hotline to arrange a repair, and a service agent will collect the device directly from their home. Do note that an access fee applies for each repair request.
