U Mobile has officially launched its own next-generation 5G network branded as ULTRA5G. Utilising the latest 5G technologies with 5G SA (5G Standalone) and network slicing, the orange telco has made Berjaya Times Square the first fully 5G-enabled shopping centre as part of its drive to deliver the deepest and widest 5G coverage in the country.
To showcase its milestone, U Mobile has demonstrated its 5G network capability with live 4K streaming demo in an indoor roller coaster, immersive mixed reality experiences and 5G network slicing.
U Mobile postpaid and prepaid customers are now able to experience the ULTRA5G network at Berjaya Times Square which covers all floors including the basement carpark. Users will see ULTRA5G as the network name on their phones if they are connected to U Mobile’s ULTRA5G network.

To recap, U Mobile was been given the green light to roll out Malaysia’s second 5G network which will compete with Digital Nasional Berhad. At the time of writing, U Mobile’s own 5G network is live at Berjaya Times Square and on Penang Bridge 1.
While U Mobile aims to achieve 80% 5G population coverage by H2 2026, they have not provided further rollout targets for the coming months. However, they emphasised that they are rolling out in-building 5G coverage with the aim to cover 175 buildings in the next year, and over 600 buildings within 4 years.
U Mobile has engaged Huawei and ZTE as their network technology partners with Huawei looking into West Malaysia and ZTE covering East Malaysia.

U Mobile CTO Woon Ooi Yuen said “U Mobile is proud to launch ULTRA5G, our brand new name for our 5G experience that is supported
by our next gen network. As the nation’s newest 5G network provider, U Mobile is focused on enabling digital transformation for consumers and businesses alike. ULTRA5G brings enhanced digital experiences, from ultra-reliable streaming and immersive gaming to high-quality video calls in crowded areas. For enterprises, ULTRA5G opens doors to advanced use cases like XR, robotics, smart cities, and IR 4.0 automation. With deployment ahead of schedule, U Mobile is also doubling down on indoor coverage to ensure the widest and deepest 5G experience in Malaysia.”
According to the orange telco, they intends to provide regular updates on ULTRA5G availability, with rapid network deployment expected to cover strategic locations such as airports, hospitals, convention centres, and other high-impact indoor and outdoor areas nationwide.
