JomCharge turns on EV chargers at Tengku Muhammad Fa-iz Petra Mosque in Gua Musang

JomCharge has activated new EV chargers at the Tengku Muhammad Fa-iz Petra Mosque in Gua Musang, Kelantan. The new charging spot is able to cater to up to 3 EVs at the same time through a pair of DC and AC chargers.

First highlighted by Muhd Zunurain at MyEVOC’s Facebook Group, who has also provided us with all of the images in this article, the true maximum charging speed of the ABB DC charger that JomCharge has installed at the mosque is unknown. However, it has been set to deliver a maximum DC charging speed of 50kW, according to the JomCharge app.

It currently costs RM1.50 per kWh to utilise the new AC charger, although the fee is slightly lower at RM1.35 per kWh if you subscribe to the JomCharge Elite membership plan.

As for the AC charger, it has been set to run at a maximum AC charging speed of 5kW with a charging fee of 90 sen per kWh or 81 sen per kWh for JomCharge Elite members. Both of these new EV chargers can also be activated through ChargEV and Gentari Go mobile app, although JomCharge Elite discounts are only available through the JomCharge app.

Gua Musang is slowly shedding its “EV charger desert” image

A few years ago, most EV owners would not dare to travel to Kuantan using the Gua Musang Highway route due to the absence of public DC chargers. If they really want to use the route, they have to rely on Kelab CEE4EV’s AC charger, which is located at this homestay, to charge their vehicle.

Things started to change when DC Handal deployed a 47kW charger at Hentian Gua Musang in April 2024. In March this year, Gentari installed a 200kW DC charger at G-Orange Mall, which further made the Gua Musang route more feasible to EV owners.

Even though the charging speed of JomCharge’s EV chargers at Tengku Muhammad Fa-iz Petra Mosque is not blazingly fast, they still play an important role in making Gua Musang more EV-friendly to travellers. Furthermore, the mosque can count itself as one of the very few places of worship in Malaysia that has EV charging infrastructure.
