Pro-Net will reveal the estimated pricing for the new Proton e.MAS 5 this weekend. The order books will also be opened at the same time, according to the company which handles Proton e.MAS and Smart EVs.
In addition to that, Pro-Net will also announce the Early Bird package for the early adopters of e.MAS 5. The reveal will take place during a livestream session that is happening on this Saturday, 4 October, from 8:00 PM to 10:30 PM on Proton e.MAS official TikTok and Facebook pages.
Set to launch sometime in Q4 this year, the national automaker has openly called Proton e.MAS 5 as Malaysia’s 1st affordable EV. We take this as an indication that the EV will be made available for under RM100,000, which doesn’t come as a surprise since e.MAS 5 will be assembled at Proton’s new EV plant in its Tanjung Malim manufacturing complex.
Proton e.MAS 5 quick specs
At the moment, only the specifications for the e.MAS 5 Premium has been officially confirmed. Equipped with a 40.16 kWh LFP battery from CATL, this variant is able to deliver up to 325km of WLTP-rated range.
The e.MAS 5 Premium can support a DC charging speed of up to 71kW, and it takes approximately 21 minutes of DC charging to charge the EV from 30% to 80%. At the same time, it also supports single-phase AC charging of up to 6.6kW.
The specs sheet provided to us did not indicate whether this EV will offer Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability. However, since it is based on the Geely Xinyuan, we would not be surprised if the feature makes its way to Malaysia.

The e.MAS 5 Premium comes with a single 85kW (~114hp) electric motor that also produces 150Nm of torque. In terms of acceleration, we were told that it can go from 0 to 50km/h in 3.9 seconds.
Unlike most cars in its class, the e.MAS 5 is a rear-wheel drive (RWD) car, which allows the EV to have a tighter turning radius of 4.95 meters. The Premium variant also features multi-link rear suspension alongside MacPherson struts in the front.

Since it is an RWD vehicle, the absence of a front-mounted electric motor allows the e.MAS 5 to have a massive 70L frunk. The EV also features a 20L under console storage and 10L glove compartment, while there are also several storage areas within the EV’s door panels, as well as a 28L storage area underneath its rear seats.
As for its boot, which has a handy powered tailgate function, the e.MAS 5 offers 375L of space that can be further extended to 1,320L when you fold down its rear seats. In total, the e.MAS 5 features 32 storage compartments.

On the tech side of things, Pro-Net has confirmed that e.MAS 5 will come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support at launch, with both wired and wireless connectivity. It will also feature a 14.6-inch centre display alongside the Atlas Auto infotainment system that includes Bahasa Malaysia’s voice assistant and an integrated live map for EV charging infrastructure.
In terms of safety, the passenger and occupants of the e.MAS 5 Premium is protected by 6 airbags. It also has a long list of Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features, including Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Change Assist (LCW), and many more.

Not enough with that, the e.MAS 5 Premium has been fitted with the G-TCS anti-slip and anti-skid system that is designed to reduce wheel slippage on low-traction surfaces and improve torque response time.
