U Mobile says it is the first telco in Malaysia to deploy full-scale, network-level scam protection across its entire mobile network.
Since going live at full scale in February 2025, it has blocked more than 265 million scam calls and fraudulent SMS as of December 2025.
The scam protection is powered by Cellusys’ advanced firewall technology, which leverages on their Unified Signalling, SMS and Voice Firewall solution.
Unlike device-based or app-level filters, the solution works at the network layer, where all inbound calls and SMS are screened before they reach customers’ devices.
U Mobile said the deployment has protected customers from scam calls impersonating authorities and institutions, SMS phishing attacks (smishing), spoofed or manipulated caller identities, as well as high-volume criminal campaigns targeting Malaysian consumers. The protection applies across both U Mobile’s 5G and 4G networks.
U Mobile CTO Woon Ooi Yuen said, “At U Mobile, we are committed to safeguarding our customers against fraudulent activities, which is why we took a proactive step to embed the advanced scam protection solution from Cellusys directly into our network as a core security capability available to all customers. We’re proud to be the first telco in Malaysia to launch full-scale network-level scam protection, and our efforts have delivered tangible results, with over 265 million scam calls and fraudulent SMS blocked to date. We will continue to improve our network through technology to better protect customers across voice, messaging and data services. As we expand our next-generation 5G network nationwide, security remains a core priority, because trusted connectivity is essential to a resilient Malaysian digital economy.”
Meanwhile, Cellusys CEO Brendan Cleary said, “U Mobile’s leadership in protecting its customers sets a powerful benchmark for Malaysia and the wider region. We are proud that Cellusys technology is the engine behind this nationwide protection, operating with the accuracy, resilience, and scale required to stop scams before they reach consumers. This deployment demonstrates what can be achieved when operators commit to proven, real-world defences rather than future roadmaps.”
Quoting statistics from the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA), 73% of Malaysians have reported experiencing scam calls and fraudulent SMS, one of the highest rates in the Southeast Asia region, with criminal groups increasingly targeting households, senior citizens, and vulnerable individuals
According to the joint statement, Cellusys’ advanced signalling-intelligence platform analyses traffic at the authoritative network layer to detect anomalies and fraudulent behaviour with high precision. By leveraging behavioural and signalling-layer detection tuned to Malaysian threat patterns, it provides deep visibility across voice and messaging channels, ensures high accuracy with minimal false positives, continuously adapts to evolving fraud tactics, and delivers proven reliability at national scale for operators.
