If you use more than 200L of RON95 petrol each month, here’s some good news. The government is increasing the monthly subsidised fuel quota under BUDI MADANI, effective 1 September 2026. Under BUDI95, eligible Malaysians can enjoy subsidised RON95 fuel at RM1.99 per litre.
For BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95), the monthly quota will be increased from the current 200 litres to 300 litres. The government says the higher quota will benefit 16 million BUDI95 users.
Meanwhile, the BUDI Diesel quota for eligible owners of diesel-powered pick-up trucks and jeeps will be increased from 300 litres to 400 litres per month. The move is expected to benefit more than 500,000 BUDI Diesel users.
BUDI95 returns to original 300L monthly quota
The latest revision essentially restores the original BUDI95 monthly quota when the targeted RON95 subsidy programme was introduced on 30 September 2025.
At launch, eligible Malaysians were given a monthly quota of 300 litres of subsidised RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre.
However, the government reduced the standard BUDI95 quota from 300 litres to 200 litres per month, effective 1 April 2026. The move was introduced amid higher global oil prices, while the subsidised RON95 price remained unchanged at RM1.99 per litre.
The initial reduction drew complaints from some motorists who said 200 litres per month was insufficient for their daily usage. Once they exceeded the quota, they would have to pay unsubsidised prices which currently costs RM3.82 per litre for RON95 and RM4.72 per litre for Diesel Euro 5.
Govt said less than 1% of BUDI95 users exceed 200L per month
However, the Ministry of Finance said its data showed that less than 1% of BUDI95 users consume more than 200 litres per month. Finance Minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan said in June that the government records about three million BUDI95 transactions daily.
Last month, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Anwar Ibrahim defended the reduced 200L quota, saying said the move was based on actual usage data showing that most users consumed far less than the new limit. He said fewer than 1% of BUDI95 users consistently consumed more than 200 litres of RON95 between October 2025 and May 2026.
