EVPower is set to deploy a large-scale EV charging hub in Melaka with megawatt (MW) capacity.
The upcoming charging hub at Vitória in Kota Laksamana, will offer a total of 27 dedicated EV charging bays with a total planned charging capacity of up to 1.28MW.
The charge point operator (CPO) has formalised its collaboration with Vitória developer Gene & Quin Development during the launch of the commercial development today.
Vitória Melaka EV charging hub to offer 12x DC and 15x AC charge points
The upcoming EV charging hub at Vitória will feature 27 dedicated charging bays, comprising of 12x DC fast-charging bays and 15x AC charging bays. In total, the site will have up to 1.28MW of planned charging capacity.
The combination of DC and AC charging is intended to cater to different dwell times at the commercial development.
Drivers who need a quick top up can use the DC chargers, while the AC charge points cater to visitors who intend to spend a longer period at the development.
The EV charging hub will also support smart contactless payment capability for ease of activation and payment.
EVPower CEO Cornelius Ee said, “EV charging infrastructure is quickly becoming part of the core infrastructure of modern commercial developments. At Vitória, we are looking beyond simply installing chargers. We want to create a reliable charging destination that becomes part of how people use and experience the location.”
He added, “With 27 bays and up to 1.28MW of planned charging capacity, this gives us an opportunity to demonstrate what happens when charging is designed into a commercial destination from the beginning rather than added later as an afterthought.”
The Vitória EV charging hub is targeted to be completed in Q3 2028.
Vitória is a new commercial development in Kota Laksamana, Melaka
Vitória is a new commercial development in Kota Laksamana comprising 69 three-storey commercial units, and is located within an established tourism, residential and commercial area near Melaka’s UNESCO World Heritage area.
The launch was officiated by Majlis Bandaraya Melaka Bersejarah (MBMB) Datuk Bandar Datuk Shadan Othman.
The new development is also expected to benefit from a new road connection linking Jalan Syed Abdul Aziz, Jalan Pandan and Lebuh AMJ.
EVPower adopts co-investment model for Vitoria charging hub
EVPower’s new charging hub will be deployed using a co-investment structure.
Under this arrangement, Gene & Quin Development prepares the supporting infrastructure required for the charging facility, while EVPower funds and deploys the chargers and subsequently manages the charging operation.
EVPower says it adopts different investment structures depending on the charging location and partner.
Besides co-investment projects such as Vitória, the CPO is developing a Managed Infrastructure Partnership (MIP) model where an organisation funds and owns the charging assets while EVPower manages the charging business.
Syarikat Air Melaka Berhad (SAMB) is set to become EVPower’s first pure MIP deployment, where SAMB funds the project and EVPower manages the charging operation.
EVPower says the significance is scalability depending on the location and partner. The CPO is able to deploy EV chargers through its own investment, co-investment or client-funded MIP structures while maintaining the same core role as the specialist charge point operator.
